Department of Clinical Biochemistry
Clinical biochemistry is the study of the chemistry of the human body and how it is affected by disease, to help with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of everything from endocrine disorders to antenatal complications. Disease causes changes in the complex biochemistry of the body. This enables biochemists to detect disease by analysing the concentration of substances in body fluids and tissues. For example, glucose levels increase in patients who have diabetes mellitus, while people with kidney disease will have higher levels of urea.
SLG’s Department of Clinical Biochemistry has a sophisticated laboratory with the most advanced equipment including spectrophotometer, immunoassay autoanalyser, ABG analyser, electrolyte analyser, autoanalyser and nephelometer. This state-of-the-art facility, along with our experienced team of clinicians, lab technicians, technical assistants and phlebotomists, ensures world class quality standards, higher degree of precision and shorter turnaround times.
SLG is geared to provide a broad array of routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing services on blood, urine, plasma, serum, cerebrospinal fluid, gastric aspirate, pleural fluid and tissues. The test results play a critical role in detecting health problems, determining prognosis and guiding the therapy of patients with various conditions including diabetes, heart disease, infertility, thyroid problems, cystic fibrosis and meningitis.
The laboratory maintains a comprehensive selection of routine, high-volume automated clinical biochemistry tests as well as a diverse menu of serological tests, endocrine/hormone analysis, tumour markers etc. Additional specialized testing includes therapeutic drug monitoring; toxicological testing; trace metals analysis; kidney stone analysis; serum protein analyses; and other specialized chemical analyses.
The Department of Clinical Biochemistry is the vital hub around which SLG Hospitals’ functioning revolves. That’s because over 70% of the decisions made by doctors regarding diagnosis of disease and patient treatment pathways are based on results delivered by the clinical biochemistry lab. In fact, our team comprises of some of the best clinical biochemistry specialists in Hyderabad.
The department’s extensive scope of activities encompasses: *Routine & Special Chemistry * Evaluation of endocrine organ function * Evaluation of fertility and reproductive disorders * Evaluation of growth and development * Monitoring response to cancer treatment * Assessment of nutritional status * Evaluation of drug toxicity * Evaluation of heart, liver and kidney function * Screening for lifestyle related disorders * Emergency and bedside testing
